Centennial Education Scholarship — overview
The Centennial Education Scholarship provides financial support to Oregon nursing students enrolled in prelicensure programs (BSN or ADN) and to registered nurses pursuing a BSN at an Oregon school of nursing that is accredited and approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN). The award is intended to cover costs associated with finishing a prelicensure or BSN program, including tuition, fees, and other direct program-related expenses.
Who may apply
- Must be actively enrolled and currently taking core nursing curriculum courses in an OSBN‑approved nursing program located in Oregon.
- Applicants may only apply for one Oregon Nurses Foundation (ONF) scholarship per cycle.
How recipients are chosen
Selection is based on these weighted criteria:
- Leadership: 35%
- Experience with other cultures, minority groups, and underserved populations: 30%
- Anticipated future contributions to the profession of nursing: 15%
- Demonstrated value/impact of the scholarship to the applicant’s education/career: 10%
- Alignment with certified shortage area priorities: 10%
Award amount and renewal
One $5,000 scholarship is awarded each year. The award is non‑renewable, but previous applicants may reapply in subsequent years. Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution and applied to tuition, fees, and other program‑related charges.
Application requirements — complete application must include
- Online application form fully completed.
- Academic transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
- Proof of current enrollment in core nursing courses at an OSBN‑approved Oregon School of Nursing.
- One letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member. Recommenders may use the electronic reference form provided in the application; letters can be submitted directly to ONF. Instructions for faculty are available in the application’s reference section.
Guidance for the letter of recommendation
The faculty recommendation should address:
- The applicant’s standing in the nursing program.
- How long the recommender has known the applicant.
- Concrete examples of the applicant’s leadership.
- Any other information relevant to the applicant’s suitability for the scholarship.
Submission instructions and disqualification notice
All application materials must be received by the Oregon Nurses Foundation electronically by the deadline. Applications sent incomplete or missing required documentation will be disqualified.
Important dates
- March 15 – May 1: Online applications are available.
- May 1: Completed applications must be submitted electronically to ONF.
- July 30: Scholarship recipients are announced.
- Fall (beginning of term): Scholarship funds are transmitted to the recipient’s school.
