Founders Scholarship

Introduction
The Betsy Y. Justus NC TECH Founders Scholarship was created to honor NC TECH’s founding CEO. After her passing in the summer of 2011, NC TECH established this award in accordance with her wishes to support young women in North Carolina who plan to pursue studies and careers in technology or engineering. Each year two recipients are chosen; each award includes $1,000 per year and a Lenovo laptop (see totals below).

Important dates
- Application opens: January
- Award notifications: by May 1

Who is eligible
- Female students who are rising first-year undergraduates enrolling at an accredited North Carolina institution of higher education.
- Applicants must meet North Carolina residency status for tuition purposes.
- Eligible schools: four-year colleges/universities with a physical campus in North Carolina, or two-year colleges within the NC Community College System.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale.
- Intended major must be in technology or engineering.

Award details
- Recipients receive $1,000 per year plus a Lenovo laptop.
- Total award amounts: $4,000 for students attending a four-year institution; $2,000 for students attending a two-year community college.
- Enrollment will be verified annually before scholarship payments are issued to the institution.

Application requirements
- Completed online application, including essay responses.
- Proof of acceptance: applicants must provide documentation of acceptance as a rising freshman, re-entry, or transfer student at an accredited North Carolina institution.
- Official transcript: have your current or most recent academic institution send an official transcript directly to jana@nctech.org. In the email subject line include: Scholarship Transcript: Applicant Last Name, Applicant First Name to ensure your transcript is matched with your application.
- Letter of recommendation: a faculty member, academic advisor, or community leader must submit a recommendation letter directly to Jana Barile at jana@nctech.org. In the email subject line include: Scholarship Transcript: Applicant Last Name, Applicant First Name to ensure it pairs with your application.
