Introduction
The Bay Area SMACNA Scholarship Trust Fund extends beyond its Intern Program to promote awareness of career paths in the sheet metal industry among young people. Each year the Fund awards a minimum of 40 tuition-and-book scholarships to students working toward bachelor’s degrees.
Award details and eligible fields
- Individual awards are available for up to $6,000. While priority is generally given to students majoring in engineering and construction-related programs, applicants enrolled in other disciplines have also received scholarships.
- Recipients who attend the intern training day and complete an internship with a Bay Area SMACNA contractor are eligible for an additional award equal to 50% of their scholarship amount.
- Trustees have also authorized one Hardship Scholarship of up to $15,000 to assist a qualified candidate in the sheet metal/HVAC field who can demonstrate significant financial need.
Payment and permitted uses
- Scholarship funds may be sent directly to the recipient’s college or university by the Scholarship Fund.
- Awards cannot exceed the combined cost of tuition and books and must be applied only to those expenses.
Employment preference
- Scholarship recipients may be given priority consideration for paid positions in the Bay Area SMACNA Summer Intern Program.
