VVA Chapter 49 Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 49
VVA Chapter 49 is proud to offer seven scholarships of $1,500 each to graduating high school seniors in Westchester County who are the children or grandchildren of veterans who served on active duty.
Eligibility
- Must be a student completing high school in Westchester County this year.
- Must be the child or grandchild of a veteran who served on active duty.
- Must plan to enroll in an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school in the United States.
- Note: Service in the Reserves or National Guard does not qualify as veteran status unless the service member was activated for more than 90 days for reasons other than training.
- The veteran’s service period is not limited to the Vietnam era.
How applications are evaluated
Applicants will be judged using four criteria (reviewed in the order listed):
1. Class rank for the junior year.
2. SAT or ACT score — only these test results will be accepted.
3. A résumé summarizing extracurricular involvement (school clubs, athletics, student government), employment, volunteer work, and other interests. Include relevant references with addresses and phone numbers.
4. A typed personal statement, no longer than two pages, addressing: the effect (if any) of my parent’s or grandparent’s military service on my attitudes toward life and country.
