Columbians College Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Columbians
Introduction
The Columbians, an Italian‑American philanthropic organization based in New Jersey, awards annual scholarships to students in Northern New Jersey. Since our founding in 1982, we have distributed more than $2,000,000 in scholarship aid and financial hardship assistance. Each year we allocate between $25,000 and $50,000 in total scholarship funds, with individual awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications are available online via the Scholarship Application.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a high school senior living in Bergen County or Passaic County, New Jersey.
- While all eligible seniors may apply, preference is given to students who show academic excellence, extracurricular and community service involvement, financial need, and an interest in Italian heritage, art, music, or culture.
Selection Criteria
The Scholarship Committee evaluates every application using these factors:
- Financial need
- Academic achievement
- SAT/ACT scores
- Community and extracurricular participation
- Essay
- Any special circumstances
- Demonstrated interest in Italian heritage, art, music, or culture
Re-Award (Continuing) Scholarship
- The Columbians may offer a re-award of up to $1,000 per year to qualifying students in their sophomore, junior, and senior years (continuing applicants must re-apply each year).
- Re-award candidates must show sustained strong academic performance and continued financial need.
- Re-awards are contingent on the organization’s annual budget and are not guaranteed.
About the Organization
The Columbians is committed to celebrating Italian culture and supporting local youth. In addition to the yearly $1,000–$5,000 scholarships, we frequently provide ongoing assistance to college students who continue to demonstrate high academic standards and financial necessity.
