Introduction
Since its founding, National Medical Fellowships (NMF) has placed financial empowerment at the center of its work. NMF scholarships award both merit and demonstrated financial need. Over time, these awards have been supported by hundreds of foundations and individual donors. NMF continually seeks new partners to broaden and increase the range and amount of support available to its scholars.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the general requirements below unless a specific scholarship lists additional criteria:

- Proof of U.S. citizenship or a DACA approval letter.
- Permanent residents (Green Card holders) are eligible. See NMF’s permanent resident document guidelines for acceptable evidence.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited, graduate-level U.S. health care program. Note that some awards are intended for high school or undergraduate students; check each program’s description.
- For medical-degree applicants: enrollment in an LCME-accredited U.S. MD or MD/PhD program, or in an AOA/COCA-accredited DO or DO/PhD program, unless otherwise noted.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Evidence of leadership ability.
- A proven and ongoing commitment to serving medically underserved communities.

Refer to individual scholarship listings online for program-specific eligibility rules. Also note that any year-in-school requirement should be interpreted according to the academic year named in the program description (for example, 2025–26).

Application checklist
All NMF scholarship/award applicants must upload required documents through the online application portal. Individual scholarships may require additional materials and program-specific personal statements; those items will be found in the submission section for each program. Required documents generally include:

Financial documents
- Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education.
- Loan history documentation (both current and undergraduate) from the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

Academic documents
- Official financial aid award letter from your institution.
- Current professional-school transcript.

Personal and identity documents
- Proof of citizenship or immigration status. Acceptable scanned documents include:
- U.S. birth certificate
- Current U.S. passport
- USCIS certificate of naturalization
- Voter registration card (must be accompanied by a photo ID)
- Verification of DACA status: DACA approval letter.
- Verification of permanent resident/Green Card status: copy of Green Card or passport stamp plus state ID.

Other required materials
- Curriculum vitae (CV) or resume.
- Letter(s) of recommendation.

Letters of recommendation
Most NMF scholarships request one letter of recommendation; some require more than one or none. Always confirm the specific requirement on the application you are completing. During the application, you will provide the name(s) and contact information for your recommender(s). After you submit their details, recommenders will receive an email with instructions for uploading their letter.

We strongly recommend asking for recommendations from a dean, faculty member, or chief administrative officer at your academic institution, or from a community leader or volunteer supervisor who can speak to your leadership, community commitment, and professional potential.
