AAU Karate Scholarships

Introduction
The AAU Karate Scholarship program was unveiled to members at the 2004 AAU Karate National Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Over the subsequent ten (10) years the program has awarded scholarships to many deserving athletes.
Scholarship Purpose and Name
The AAU Karate Michael Eggleston Sr. Memorial Scholarship recognizes and supports AAU Karate participants. The award is named for Michael (Mike) Eggleston Sr., a devoted supporter of AAU Karate who contributed as an athlete, coach, official, and volunteer. Sensei Eggleston passed away unexpectedly in May of 2021; his dedication continues to inspire the program.
Who Is Eligible
- Applicants must have been involved in AAU Karate for at least one (1) year.
- Applications are accepted only through AAU Karate on behalf of qualifying candidates; no other applications will be considered.
- Eligible students must either (a) be planning to enroll at an accredited undergraduate college or university for the academic year beginning in the Fall, or (b) be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university.
Award Details
- Two (2) scholarships are granted each year: one to a young man and one to a young woman.
- Each scholarship award is $2,500.00.
Application and Presentation
- The application form must be completed by the applicant and a parent or guardian.
- Recipients are required to be present at the AAU Karate National Championships in order to receive the AAU Karate Michael Eggleston Sr. Memorial Scholarship.
