Lamey Wellehan Maine Difference Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Lamey-Wellehan
Introduction
The Maine Difference Scholarship, supported by Lamey-Wellehan, helps Maine students cover the cost of higher education at colleges and universities located in Maine. Recipients are expected to pursue studies that center on Maine’s ecological systems and its economic issues. By concentrating academic work on these state-specific topics, the program seeks to produce graduates whose careers will return value to both the individual and the State of Maine.
Award details
The scholarship provides a renewable $1,000 award for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in Maine. Lamey-Wellehan redirected the funds it formerly spent on shopping bags—after eliminating bags in all stores to cut down on environmental waste—into this scholarship program. That reallocation of resources has enabled the company to expand the program to offer three scholarships each year.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Maine Difference Scholarship, an applicant must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be a Maine high school senior who will graduate in the coming spring and plans to enroll in a Maine college that fall; or
- Be a graduate of a Maine high school within the four years prior to the current year who expects to be enrolled in a Maine college in the upcoming fall term.
Applicants should plan their course of study to emphasize Maine’s ecology and economics to align with the scholarship’s intent.
