Scholarship Overview
The Law Office of George J. Skuros Justice in Family Law Scholarship awards $1,000 to a current or prospective law student dedicated to improving family law practice and policy. The prize may be applied toward tuition or other educational costs at the college, university, or law school where the recipient is enrolled.
Who may apply
To be eligible for the Justice in Family Law Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited undergraduate or J.D. program at a U.S. college or university for Fall 2026.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Application requirements
Submit the following materials:
1. Essay (500–1,500 words) addressing the prompt below. Essays must be submitted as a PDF and include at least one citation.
Prompt: Select a recent development or reform in family law. Assess its likely effects on families and on attorneys who practice family law, and state whether you consider the change to be progress and why.
2. Academic transcript.
3. Contact information: mailing address, phone number, and email address.
Selection process and criteria
Applications will be reviewed by the firm’s selection committee. Judging will emphasize:
- Demonstrated commitment to improving family law and its practice.
- Compliance with essay requirements (PDF format, inclusion of at least one citation, and adherence to the word count).
- Originality, insight, and overall quality of writing.
Award notification and terms
The recipient for Fall 2026 will be notified by email no later than July 1, 2026. The scholarship funds will be sent directly to the financial aid office at the recipient’s institution. By submitting an application, applicants agree that if selected, their name, submitted essay, and photograph may be used on the firm’s website and in promotional materials.
