Cancer Support Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Lep Foundation for Youth Education
Introduction
The CURE Cancer Support Scholarship, established by the Lep Foundation for Youth Education, supports students who have been diagnosed with cancer. The Lep Foundation is a public charity that provides financial assistance to survivors of childhood and adolescent cancers who wish to continue their education. This scholarship is offered in partnership with CURE Media Group.
Purpose
CURE Magazine serves as a comprehensive resource through every phase of the cancer journey, blending scientific information with personal perspective to make cancer more understandable. In cooperation with CURE Media Group, the Lep Foundation aims to assist students who, despite a cancer diagnosis and the financial strain of medical care, have shown determination to pursue a college education. The scholarship awards one recipient $5,000 to help offset college expenses.
Who May Apply
This award is intended for applicants who have been diagnosed with cancer and whose treatment and illness have created significant financial hardship for themselves or their families. Candidates must be U.S. citizens living in the United States. As proof of diagnosis, scholarship winners will be required to provide a confirmation letter from a licensed physician after they are notified of the award; do not submit this letter with your application.
Academic and Program Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate academic effort and achievement consistent with their potential. Candidates must have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning—this can include colleges, community colleges, universities, or vocational schools. All academic records cited in the application must be supported by official documentation.
Application Materials (all items required)
To be considered, submissions must include:
- A one-page essay describing your cancer diagnosis, the challenges the diagnosis and treatment created for you and your family, and your educational and career goals.
- An official school transcript.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals who are not family members.
File format: PDF or DOC only. Image files (JPGs) will not be accepted. All listed materials must be received for your application to be reviewed.
How to Submit / Deadline
Email your completed application package to thelepfoundation@gmail.com by the published deadline. Because of the large number of applications received, only those selected to receive awards will be contacted.
Award Use and Payment Process
Scholarship funds are intended for tuition and related college costs. Payments are issued directly to the recipient’s school. To receive payment, the student’s school must submit a completed Verification of Enrollment form to the Lep Foundation. Once that form is received, the Foundation will issue a check payable to the school and mail it directly to the institution to establish the student’s credit. The student will be informed when the check has been sent. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor and follow up on any matters related to the scholarship disbursement.
