Overview
The Rick and Sherry Murray Medical Futures Scholarship supports students whose lives have been affected by ALS and who are motivated to pursue a career in the medical or social work fields because of that experience. Eligible applicants are those who have or have had a close family member—such as a spouse, parent or guardian, child, or grandparent—diagnosed with ALS.
Eligibility
- Must be a close relative of a person diagnosed with ALS. Families of every tradition will be considered.
- Must be a legal resident of Florida.
- Must be currently enrolled in, or accepted to, a full-time program (as defined by the educational institution) at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the United States.
- Must be pursuing a medically related degree, a social work degree, or a medically related certification program.
- Students of any age may apply; eligibility is not limited to graduating high school seniors, recent high school graduates, or current undergraduates.
How to Apply
Submit a completed application by mail or email along with the following supporting documents:
Required Documents
- Official, current transcript: Grade reports are not acceptable. The transcript must be an official copy and show the student’s name, the institution name, the degree program, grades and credit hours for each course, and the term in which each course was taken.
- A 500-word essay explaining how your experience with ALS has influenced you and contributed to your decision to enter the medical or social work professions.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- Any additional items requested on the application.
Applications and materials that do not meet the above requirements may be disqualified.
