National Board Technical Scholarship

Overview
The National Board Technical Scholarship supports students pursuing engineering and STEM knowledge related to the construction, inspection, and operation of boilers and pressure vessels.
Who is eligible
Applicants must satisfy all of the following:
- Be accepted to or currently enrolled full-time at a trade school, technical college, or university located in the United States or Canada.
- Be majoring in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, industrial, welding, chemical engineering, or another engineering discipline considered closely related and acceptable to the review committee.
- Be a citizen of the United States or Canada.
- Be the child, stepchild, grandchild, or great-grandchild of a current or former National Board member, a National Board Commissioned Inspector, or a full-time National Board employee (living or deceased). The qualifying relative must have served at least one year.
- Have not previously received a National Board Technical Scholarship.
Application timeline and selection
- The 2026 application window opens on September 1, 2025.
- Applications must be submitted or postmarked by February 28, 2026.
- The National Board will evaluate applications against program criteria. Awards are competitive.
- Successful applicants will be notified by March 31, 2026.
How to apply (required materials and instructions)
- Carefully review the application and complete every section.
- Sign the final page of the application.
- Submit a personal statement of 500–750 words describing how your academic, extracurricular, and work or internship experiences have influenced your educational and career objectives and explaining why you should be selected for this scholarship.
- Include two letters of recommendation from instructors or other school representatives, each on official school letterhead.
- Provide an official academic transcript on school letterhead from your current or most recent high school, college, trade school, or university.
- If you are a high school student, include an acceptance letter from the college or trade school you will attend, showing the anticipated start date.
- You may apply using the online application, or complete the printable application and submit it (with your personal statement, recommendation letters, transcript, and reference information) by email or by postal mail to the National Board.
Please ensure all documents are complete and received or postmarked by the February 28, 2026 deadline to be considered.
