Overview
The Massachusetts Police Association offers annual scholarships for college students who are children of MPA members. A total of $35,000 is awarded each year in $1,000 grants.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be the child of an active or retired MPA member who is in good standing.
- Children of MPA members who were in good standing at the time of their death are also eligible.
- Students must be currently enrolled in or actively attending college to qualify.
- No individual may receive more than one scholarship.
- Recipients must plan to continue their education in the school year immediately following the award; if a recipient does not enroll that year, the scholarship amount must be returned to the Association’s treasury.
Award structure and payment
- Awards are not restricted by study area (general category).
- There are seven awards granted in each of the five geographic regions (35 awards total).
- Each scholarship is $1,000.00. The Treasurer of the Massachusetts Police Association will release the full $1,000 to the student when a second-semester tuition bill is received.
How to apply
- Applications for the Annual Scholarship Awards are being accepted now. The combined award pool is $35,000.
- Applications MUST be received by the Scholarship Committee on or before March 31 of the award year. Late or incomplete submissions may be disqualified.
- Due to increased submission volume in previous years, competition is expected to be strong; applicants must follow all instructions carefully.
Essay requirement
- Applicants must submit a biographical essay written by the student. The Committee asks for a candid sketch that includes: your specific financial needs, educational and career plans, and life experiences that illustrate your character and resourcefulness.
- Include any academic honors, prizes, scholarships already received, and examples of community involvement.
- The essay must be completed by the student and may be attached during the online application process.

Several applications in past cycles were rejected for not following application instructions. To avoid disqualification, please read and comply with all submission requirements.
