Southern Nevada GCSA Legacy Awards
Scholarship Sponsored by Southern Nevada Golf Course Superintendents Association
The Southern Nevada Golf Course Superintendents Association (SNGCSA) Legacy Awards competition provides financial assistance for the education of SNGCSA members' children and grandchildren. Each award, valued at $1,000.00, is sponsored by the Scholarship & Research Tournament and managed by the SNGCSA.
The SNGCSA Board and Scholarship Committee will evaluate all applications. The committee's decisions are final. Applicants will receive notification of their application status via mail by August 15th for the Fall Semester and February 15th for the Spring Semester of the application year. All scholarship award checks will be issued to the applicant or their respective educational institution.
Details of The Awards
Qualification Criteria:
- The applicant must be a child or grandchild of a GCSAA member who has been active for five or more consecutive years and is currently an active SNGCSA member in one of the following categories: Affiliate, Superintendent Class A or SM, Retired. The competition is open to biological or adopted children of SNGCSA members. If a member was active at the time of their death, their children or grandchildren are also eligible.
- The applicant must be a full-time student at an accredited higher education institution, or a high school senior accepted to such an institution for the upcoming academic year. High school seniors must include a letter of acceptance with their application.
- Previous winners are allowed to reapply the following year.
- While multiple students from the same family can apply, only one student per family will be awarded.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants will be assessed based on academic performance, involvement in extracurricular activities and the community, leadership skills, and outside employment.
- The applicant must submit an original essay of up to 500 words that has not been previously submitted to SNGCSA.
- Financial need will not influence the selection process.
Application Process:
Applicants must fill out and submit the attached application form along with the following items:
- Transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended, including the most recent semester.
- A typed original essay.
- High school seniors graduating must include a letter of acceptance from a college with their application.
- All applications must be postmarked by July 15th or Jan 15th, depending on the semester.
