Eligibility and deadlines
If you are applying before you have completed your high school diploma, you should apply as a first-year (first‑year/first-time) student. Submit all required materials by Nov. 1 for Early Decision and Early Action candidates, or by Feb. 1 for Regular Decision candidates.
Required application materials
- Completed Common Application and payment of the $75 application fee.
- Official high school transcript (note: some countries have additional documentation requirements).
- School Report via the Common App.
- One teacher recommendation from a core academic teacher or another non‑relative who can comment directly on your academic ability, classroom performance, and potential.
- SAT or ACT scores, if you have them and want them considered.
- English proficiency scores (TOEFL, IELTS, MET, or equivalent) for applicants whose first language is not English.
- Official college/university transcripts for students who are dually enrolled in college coursework while in high school (additional country‑specific requirements may apply).
- Early Decision applicants only: a signed Early Decision Agreement from the student, a parent or guardian, and the high school counselor confirming the student’s commitment to enroll at U‑M if admitted.
Document submission
We strongly encourage electronic submission of all required materials. You may upload documents through your application vendor or use an online transcript/document service such as Parchment, Scrip‑Safe, SCOIR, the National Student Clearinghouse, or similar providers.
