Hard of Hearing or Deaf Scholarship

Introduction
Sertoma’s Scholarship for the Hard of Hearing or Deaf has been the premier award for students who are deaf or hard of hearing since the program began in 1994. The scholarship is open to individuals with clinically significant bilateral hearing loss who are either finishing high school or enrolled as undergraduates seeking four‑year college degrees in any field.
Eligibility Requirements
- Hearing loss: Applicants must have a documented bilateral hearing loss of at least 40 dB, verified on an audiogram with SRT and PTA results.
- Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of the United States.
- Enrollment: Candidates must be enrolled full time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in the United States. Graduate study, associate degrees, community college enrollment, and vocational/technical programs are not eligible.
- Grade point average: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 unweighted scale is required.
How cumulative GPA is determined
- High school seniors: GPA calculation includes grades 9–11 plus the first semester of 12th grade.
- College freshmen: GPA includes all high school coursework plus the first semester of college.
- College sophomores and above: GPA is based on all completed college-level semesters.
Application Window
- The application is accepted annually from November 1 through March 31.
